Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Good recorder Comment: This is a great recorder. It supports the old MD format and the slightly newer MDLP format. It does not support Hi-MD. It is a good all around recorder for the cost. Keep in mind MD is a dead product.
Here is the not so great part: There is no digital out! Only a digital input. I solved this by tapping a hole in the back of the chasis and I added my own toslink transmitter. The cricuit board has a digital out, but Sony must have been trying to save money by not offering a digital output. This was impotant at the time because I used this recorder to get my recording out of the dead MD format onto CDs and ultimalty into WAV. Customer Rating: Summary: sad to see "not available" Comment: I purchased this machine 18 months ago and have loved every use of it. I have not had a problem with this unit playing even warped discs. The only thing I wish it had was a peak level readout when playing back discs (it's only active during recording). The level readout is one of the things I missed about cassette decks (my JVC KD-D40 cassette deck had a 5-band spectrum readout! WOW!). Maybe it's because I am old and controlling. I think it's nice to see what's going on. An optical-out would have been nice too (it does have an optical-in).
It doesn't have any big bells and whistles. It's just a rock-solid workhorse. If you can find a decent used one in solid working shape, pick it up. Customer Rating: Summary: LOVE IT!!! Comment: I play in a band. We hook this up to our mixer and create great recordings. We use these recordings for practice, writing songs, and self critique of live performances. Customer Rating: Summary: Could use a headphone jack, but otherwise excellent. Comment: This is an excellent sounding, easy to use minidisc unit. The only obvious feature I can think of that it's missing is a headphone jack. I bought mine through Amazon and it was the best price around with free (and fast) shipping. Customer Rating: Summary: great buy for the money Comment: this was a great buy for the money, the product came a little early which was a plus but the one down side was after one week the player broke and i had to send it back but as long as you save your receipt everything is good! i sent it back" i had to pay for shipping " and it was back in about 15 days and is working great so far!
